| Aachen University of Applied Sciences (AcUAS) ( Germany ) |
|
|
Orientation towards practice in teaching and research – this is a major concern of the AcUAS: close cooperations with regional and internationally operating companies, renowned research institutes like the Forschungszentrum Jülich (research center Jülich) and numerous universities all over the world guarantee the students an education that meets the increasing demands of today's labour marketslabour markets.
With over 8000 students and more than 220 professors as well as about 200 lecturers and another 450 staff members at its two locations, Aachen and Jülich, the AcUAS ranks among the largest universities of applied sciences in Germany. In addition to a broad spectrum of engineering sciences, the range of programs on offer also includes Design and Economics. While AcUAS was founded in 1971, some predecessor institutions can look back on a partly centennial tradition.
The AcUAS does not only offer the classical engineering education in professions like Construction Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering – in an intensive dialogue with commerce, politics and professional practice new and application-oriented programs have been and are continually developed, which exceed today's requirements by far.
For a couple of years already, in addition to the Diplom degree, internationally recognized modular bachelor and master programs are offered. Moreover, in its Jülich department the AcUAS offers the complete basic studies in English language in the academic programs Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical and Physical Engineering (Applied Physics) and Biometrical Technology, which are implemented as International Studies in Technology-(IST)-courses.
The AcUAS is appealingly situated at the Belgium-Germany-Netherlands border triangle, probably the model region for Europe . International relations to partner universities on all five continents are highly promoted for years already. Amongst numerous cooperations with renowned universities the following might be representative: Coventry University ( Great Britain ), Politecnico di Milano ( Italy ), University of Technology Sydney and Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology ( Australia ).
Internationality is also underlined by the range of academic courses on offer: German and international students are educated in more than 20 international or foreign-oriented programs and can acquire German as well as international degrees (Bachelor/Master) or Doppeldiplome (double degrees). The fraction of foreign students meanwhile amounts to more than 21 %. |

All departments offer good conditions for studying. Along with a whole series of building alterations it has been possible, in the past few years, to improve laboratory equipment and practical training facilities. Although further efforts are necessary in this area, students can be assured that they will receive the education expected of a university in today's modern industrial and service sector oriented society.
The student welfare organization offers well-appointed halls of residence on the respective campuses or in the neighborhood as well as meals in the canteens.
